Easy-Clean Coatings

Nano Hygiene Coatings Ltd develops, distributes and applies a range of affordable, high performance thin-film, ceramic coating materials, requiring low tech application, derived from chemical nano technology. The coatings are generically “easy-clean”, deposited from solution, oven-cured and chemically bond with the substrate to form a durable ceramic surface coating. An air-cured coating is also available.

The super-thin coatings (approx 5-12µm) are, dense, completely non-porous, tough and glass-like with active self-cleaning properties. The coatings are hydrophobic and oleophobic as well as being highly resistant to scratches, acids, organic solvents and other chemicals. These coatings can be applied to a variety of metal substrates including aluminium, stainless steel, brass, magnesium and ceramics as a permanent non-stick, easy-clean protective layer. Coating can be undertaken during manufacturing or in-situ for aftermarket applications.

Why Easy Clean coatings?

We have undertaken research which proves that dirt and stains are prevented from accumulating and adhering to surfaces coated with our easy clean products.

Stainless steel samples underwent a repeat soiling and cleaning program, under rigorous test conditions. Results showed that on the uncoated surfaces, the appearance deteriorated significantly. Further, repeated soiling caused further deterioration and retention of significant organic deposits. In contrast, the coated surfaces maintained their appearance and retained very little soiling and were both visually and microscopically cleaner than the uncoated surfaces.

Field trials of the air cured coating on the exterior surface of a stainless steel milk tank at a dairy farm have been underway for two years. Reduction in maintenance costs of the cleaning regime, as measured by reduced time cleaning the tanks, particularly in the critical areas of milk entry and removal, where spillages frequently occur, have been achieved.

Incorporating all the characteristics of our Easy-Clean coatings, NanoSeal is an air-cured product which can be applied in situ. A field trial on the same set of wheels has been undertaken to determine performance as a protection and sealant product. After two years, with the full variety of English weather, the coating is effective and still performing well with brake dust and road grime easily removed. After more than two and a half years and 85,000 miles, the coating is still showing easy-clean functionality.
